Unconscious bias affects our decisions and interactions, both in the workplace and in our daily lives. These automatic judgments, often based on deeply ingrained stereotypes, can shape our views without us even realizing it. In organizations, unconscious bias can have serious consequences—impacting recruitment, promotions, and team dynamics—leading to a less inclusive environment where women and marginalized groups may be overlooked or undervalued. ⚖️

Outside of work, bias influences how we engage with people who are different from us, often in subtle ways. But as Female Leaders, we have the power to drive change by fostering self-awareness, encouraging education, and opening up honest conversations.

It’s time to take the lead in recognizing and addressing unconscious bias to build a culture of fairness and inclusivity. Here are 3 tips to help you get started:

1. 🔎 Acknowledge Bias Exists – The first step is accepting that unconscious bias is real. Once we acknowledge it, we can start working on minimizing its impact.
2. 📚 Educate Yourself and Others – Continuous learning is key! Attend workshops, read about bias, and encourage your team to do the same.
3. 💬 Encourage Open Conversations – Create safe spaces for honest dialogue within your organization. Discussing bias openly fosters awareness and inspires change.

Sometimes we feel great, but our period can still significantly affect our health and daily performance. Managing discomfort is challenging enough, but imagine the added pressure of not being able to afford tampons or pads. Lack of access to menstrual products leads to serious health and social consequences:

🩸 Saving money on essentials like groceries, medication, and personal care products
🩸 Young people missing school days and adults missing workdays
🩸 Increased risk of infections due to the use of unsafe alternatives

The focus should extend beyond making menstrual products accessible to include menstrual education and research. Stichting Neighborhood Feminists, a foundation in the Netherlands fighting period poverty since 2019, recently highlighted that menstrual poverty impacts individuals across income levels and regions, not just in large cities. This is the most extensive research on menstrual poverty ever conducted in the Netherlands. Learn more about their findings: https://lnkd.in/ehuuFDaR

🤝 Offer your help: Whether it's offering advice, a listening ear, or helping with a task, showing up for each other makes a world of difference. For example, help a friend with her business pitch or babysit for a busy mom who needs a break.

💖 Accept each other for who we are: Embrace differences in backgrounds, beliefs, and choices. Instead of judgment, offer understanding. Celebrate a friend’s unique journey, whether she’s focusing on her career, family, or self-growth.

💪 Support one another through every challenge: Stand by each other, especially in difficult times. Offer emotional support or practical help, like sharing resources for mental health or being there during a stressful period at work.

🎉 Be honest: Sometimes, the best support is honesty. Give constructive feedback and be open in conversations, helping each other grow and improve. Gently tell a friend when you think she's undervaluing herself or celebrate her strengths she might not see.

When we uplift and empower each other, we create spaces where every woman can thrive and feel comfortable in her own skin.

For her high school research paper in 2023/2024, Maria conducted a survey of 14-19-year-old Estonians to determine what can be done to make cleaning easier and ensure it has a positive effect on health. The study offers practical recommendations for making house cleaning simple, quick, and beneficial for health.
